Default Goldilocks closet shelving peg system

    Hi!
I am seeking to purchase more pegs for my closet organization system.
The unit peg holes are exactly 5mm. I purchased 5mm pegs accordingly, but the pegs were too large, even with pressure, they are simply too large for the holes.
A friend suggested that I made the mistake that a 5mm peg would fit a 5mm hole, so I then purchased 4mm pegs. 4mm pegs are not snug: instead they are wobbly/loose in the hole.

Through process of elimination, I'm guessing I would need 4.5mm pegs, but cannot find that size anywhere (even custom cabinetry doesn't offer 4.5mm.

Any ideas for a solution? Anyone know of a goldmine of 4.5mm shelf pegs?

Many many thanks for any help!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Given that you are in the USA I am surprised that you are using metric sizes - is metric becoming more common there now?
Is it possible that the hole size is in imperial, say 3/16"? That would be about 4.7mm.

I did a search and found a few sources of 3/16 pins with 5mm shown as the size in brackets - are these the ones you have tried?

I suggest that you put some callipers on those pegs and check their actual diameter.

A while back I had a similar problem with some chinese "metric" rigging screws or turnbuckles, which would not pair with metric nuts. The manufacturer had simply put metric size labels on an imperial sized product - their threads were actually 3/8 inch whitworth.

    13/64" = 5.16 mm - just guessing.
