Green colour in cedar timer door panels
Hi all,
I have recently begun restoring an old cedar panel door from a house built in the 30s in an older part of Sydney. The doors in the house are all flat surfaced and I realised that they had a sheet of two ply over all the old panel doors. The ply was nailed and glued on but came off pretty easily. Underneath the door looked like it had been varnished and the inserts painted. I stripped the paint off the inserts and then belt sanded the door. What a soon discovered was that some of the panls in the door are a greeny colour after sanding. See photos.
The panels werent green before I sanded and as you cans ee only some of them turned that colour. Does anyone have an idea of why this has happened? I am planning to oil them but not that keen on having the green colour show through the oil.
Thanks,
Rod
