I am luckily right handed and right eye dominant. (I am left foot dominant, but fortunately, it is not needed for sawing).

If I planned to saw with my left hand, it would be a problem - as you have been finding, one is looking across the saw at an angle.

There are two fixes: either learn to saw with the non-dominant hand (using the dominant eye), or close (patch) the dominant eye so that it does not interfere when sawing with the dominant hand (i.e. making it easier to use the non-dominant eye).

Derek, I had never heard of Cross Laterality until you mentioned it. I Oxy Weld left handed, if I am carrying something it is in the left hand, I am ambidextrous for some tasks like drinking out of a glass and so on. Do I qualify for Cross Laterality and how much do I owe for the consult?

The reason I went to see the Optical gurus at the Uni was a strange one. I reasoned that since I always wore sun glasses when driving it was reasonable to wear a pair with a corrective lens for my left eye, the right does not need any correction. When I was given the glasses to try I suffered from split vision vertically so after a few Optometrists ran out of ideas and I had seen one specialists for $400 and no result I went to the Uni. Four hours later the best they could come up with was my brain had so adapted to mono vision it did not like to see the correction. I don't buy it because if I wear a contact lens for the same correction I don't suffer from split vision at all.

They didnt factor in that a contact lens is much closer to the cornea than spectacles? What you experienced is a common problem when going from contacts to specs. Are you sure you saw the guru and not the lackeys? The normal thing is to sit and watch the telly til it comes good. In other words, the brain adjusts.

The lady from Parramatta? I had a good talk to her and she was as puzzled as well. Before I had MV I used to go from contacts to glasses with no problem at all. If I need to do close work like soldering circuit boards for instance I just put a lens in the left eye and then put on reading glasses but that is a yearly occurrence at the most. If split vision a common occurrence then they did not mention it and I haven't heard of it but then I had not heard of cross laterality either until now.

As I understand it, MV is a condition developed over time. It becomes a problem after a long period of abnormal correction. When changing from contacts to specs on a fairly regular basis, as most contact users do, the brain doesnt seem to have a problem adapting. Once the correction becomes permanent the brain makes the necessary change and locks in.
For example; Forty years ago I had a major motorcycle accident in which I was knocked out for three days. For some time after the accident I suffered with double vision, but eventually this went away. Now, after ten eye operations I again have double vision from time to time. The surgeon tells me its the brain coming to terms with the "new look." I have exercises (the same ones I did forty years ago) and this snaps me back to reality.
The person I had in mind was Professor Stapleton.

Chris have you considered the possibility that you are naturally left handed?

you are of the age where left handedness when eating or writing would have been beaten out of you.

Ian, I couldn't write with my left hand if someone held a gun to my head, I suppose I might be left handed but write with with my right hand but on the whole I am pretty sure that is not the case. I certainly never attempted to write with my left in school.
