Default Need help to fix saw

    Hi
I have a contractors' saw that has a worn out piece of the saw lift mechanism (threads have worn out) and because it is 20+ years old the original seller doesn't have a spare. It looks like a simple job for a machinist though. Before I go to a commercial place (with a second mortgage no doubt) does anyone do/know of a hobby metalworker who can replicate this in the Brisbane region? A Men's Shed?

    Thanks
    Kim

I think that thread is what is called an ACME thread (square shouldered).
If it is , it will require someone to have an ACME Tap to cut the thread.

I suggest posting your request over in the Metal work forum.
Thats a close up photo of the threaded rod so the blokes there can see what it is.

I can probably machine one of those up for you Kim. I'd need the male thread as well as the worn nut. I'm in Melbourne though. You can post it down if you wish. Just let me know. I'd be happy to do it for no charge. The guys here on this forum have been pretty helpful to me, so I can give back a bit here.

You're a champion Gestalt. If I don't find someone local I will take you up on your offer. Will come back to you soon.
    Thanks

If you can supply the brand and model number the folks at:

Old Woodworking Machines - Index page

may be able to offer a replacement part source.

If you can't get the part shipped to Australia, I could possibly post it to you.
