Default Need help impressing a girl

I have some basic woodworking skills. I've built boxes and such, but I don't have any shop tools. I can pick up a handsaw and a dremmel for this, and hopefully that is enough.

But what I'd like to do is build this jewelry box for a lady I'm dating. It unfortunately sold out rather quickly as a limited edition item. The basic dimensions are 7x7x5. And as an amateur, I'm having a little trouble figuring out the cuts I'll need, and how to attach the corners. I was thinking dove tailing, but if there is a better option, I'd love to hear from experts. I'm also unsure how to make the trim at the bottom and the cover on the top. I'm sure if I saw plans for something similar, I could grasp it easier.

    Thanks in advance file_71fc013f.jpg

OK, coming from a bloke that is about to celebrate his 53rd wedding anniversary. . . . .

Woodworking skills are meaningless. Open the car door for her. Open ALL doors for her. Offer a hand when stepping up and over a curb. Wash the sheets on your bed FREQUENTLY. Show her that your flat is CLEANED on a regular basis. Remember her birthday, the day you met, the day that you first did it. Yeah, flowers won't hurt. And above all, the three words , , , , "I love you".

And remember the smartest man in the world, Warren Buffett, "House, Spouse, Car." Keep them the same and you'll retire as a very wealthy couple.

To me that box looks to be MDF (or possibly ply) covered with a black veneer or laminate.
the hardware is either highly polished brass or gold plated.
From this distance I can't tell if the hardware (hinges and knobs) is 1st quality or low cost. If first quality, it might cost more than $150 just to buy the hardware.

Unless you are deadly serious about becoming a box maker, follow Rich's advice

The box is the thin edge of the wedge. Then you have to fill it.

Hey Spike. Nice idea but here's a few thoughts:

I'm 99% sure that the box is made from MDF (cheap stuff) and cheap fittings. So if they are calling it a LTD Edition, that just means they are trying to get emotional appeal. There's nothing special about the box.

I'm guessing you like the appeal of giving your lady something you made. Clearly your skills aren't in woodwork. If you try to make something even this simple (and it's not that simple), you'll end up giving her something that doesn't look as good as you'd hoped. If you have good hands on skills in a particular area, maybe you could make something original using those skills.

This item is a mass produced item. If you really want to surprise her, try visiting a quality crafts/wood work shop and find an original and special item just for her. I don't know what craft shops are in your area but I'm sure that if you google wood craft boxes, you'll find something like this that will give you a range of ideas and prices to get something she will love. And she'll appreciate the effort you went to to find it. https://www.thewoodcraftshop.com.au/...ed%20Boxes.htm
    Hope this helps )
