    Default Hitachi Jig Saw

    I’m having a problem with my 15yo Hitachi Jig Saw. It continuously drops the blade whilst in operation. This has been happening for a few years and I’ve had it into the local power tool repair guy a few times, but he can’t figure it out. I’m wondering if anyone out there has had a similar problem and how did they fix it. I’d prefer not to buy a new machine as the motor still feels pretty strong. Thanks for any help.

    I inherited a Bosch from my late FIL years ago, that did the same thing. It turned out to be the clamp block was only die cast & was bending over the blade, losing tension. It eventually split down the middle.

    I had a similar issue with my clunker - found the cast clamp block had worn and the slot had deepened. I simply filed the back to effectivly reduce the depth of the slot so it gripped the blade shank tighter. This fix added about 3 years to the life of the machine, and was still good when the motor burnt out.
