Fairly gets me happy to see such a beautiful single piece of timber celebrated in a cabinet.

Keyaki aka: Zelkova Serrata, aka: Japanese elm.

Immune to Dutch elm disease, open grained, works wonderfully with hand and power tools, natural orange colour with nice grain patterns and is revered as a temple building wood.

Do you get the impression that I might just like the stuff a little?

Hinoki is just Japanese cypress, supposedly the 'perfect' hardness for furniture making, ie: Not too hard or soft, close grained and quite stable. I've never used it, but one day I might.

Oh yeah, that is a nice piece of wood. Always interesting seeing a big wide panel that is one piece, especially here. It's very common, but they don't seem to have many problems with the wood doing silly things in such a wide piece.

Maybe I am just not paying attention either. Who knows...
