Sorry about that guys, I did not absorb that you were talking about the 360 models, you need a 500 or 750 to do split points.
Rgds,
Crocy.

So I’m guessing my drill doctor 500 for a grand sum of $5 would be a bargain

Not sure how this one or the Hare & Forbes one performs https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/D070 but both recommend a minimum drill length of 85mm. For me, this would rule out a lot of the smaller sizes including 1/8 or 3mm drills.

I want to thank those who suggested that sharpening by hand is achievable for mere mortals. On your advice I asked my dad (who is a retired toolmaker) to give me a run down on sharpening. With some expert guidance, it was surprising easy to get nice sharp tips.
As for drilling oversized holes if it’s not exact, his suggestion was to drill a pilot hole with a known good bit, then having an exact centre isn’t an issue, as the tip isn’t doing any work.
Anyway, I spent the evening bulk sharpening my extensive blunt drill collection. Time will tell how well I did when they get used, though those that have been used were great.
Thanks again.
Lance

Eyes aren’t what they used to be and drill bits, new, from local suppliers, aren’t what they used to be either.
I have no problems sharpening large drill bits by hand but smaller ones
So, on the recommendations from this thread I bought a Drill Doctor Just what the doctor ordered
