I Need Ideas!!!
Okay so most would be at least scantily aware that the missus (Jo) an I have seperated but since I no longer have a mum and dont intend to do the mothers day thing for her mum... I was thinking of making Jo a mothers day gift as she has mothered our 8 nippers is more than worthy of the effort
The nippers will be giving her something of their own.... I was sorta wondering if anyone can come up with something simple yet nice (not flash or over done) I could whack up for the love of my life just to remind her I love her... simple and nice
Shes mostly interested in quilting... so ideas would be really handy cheers!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

As she is not your mother, why not help the kids (1 or more or all of them) make something for her.
Cheers.
Vernon.

How about a quilting frame? Seems obvious and maybe you have already made one in the past?

1. What about a cotton tree (thread stand thingy) for all the cotton she uses? Not sure whether quilters use spools of cotton or long, looped sheaves (I use safety pins myself if I lose a button), but some sort of organiser might be useful.
2. Adjustable dressmaker's dummy
3. Display stand for her best quiltsIncoming

A rack like they have in the stationery shops would always be appreciated for all her fabric squares.
You know the kind with slightly sloping shelves so the contents are easy to get to.
Quilting squares are usually around 250 x252 mm and 30-50 mm between the shelves would a good size.
I could try and make a drawing if you are interested

A nice box for reels, needles, and stuff. It can be almost any size of any wood that you have to hand, just a few hours work, and you could put some choccy inside.

Box idea could be good. She could use it for anything.

Hi Shane,
been following the story for a bit, (good luck hey)
my suggestion would be to make her something dramatically different from anything that she would be familiar with you normally making,
something that would make her curious about the change in your woodwork, style, direction, etc.
.
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Try this Dingo
Did one for a quilter....she wanted it really large but you don't have to go that big....& will go out & take photo of rack I made ...a towel rack....smaller size & quite nice for a quilt stand...sorry the quilt stand wouldn't load....old jpg.
Oh.... so simple to make I asure you......a breeze for you....and quick...& most of all practical!
You can see how simple it is....ask if you want any measurements...
Your a bonza bloke....more people like you & the world would be a nicer place....the one for the quilter stood about another 6/inches higher than this and about 3/inches wider & 6/inches taller.....but this is my towel rack.....and I think nicer than the large one we made as it's more versitle.
Cheers...KEKEMODon't think you're playing it safe by walking in the middle of the road.....that's the surest way to get hit by traffic coming from both ways!

Shane,
Mate, mothers day aint that far away!
If you decide to go with a quilt stand, I still have the templates I used for the stand below.....
http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ighlight=quilt
Very happy to courier them to you,
It doesn't need to be as complicated as the one in the post, you wouldn't need to do the windows nor the scroll saw work,
PM if you need me .... it is more than a worthy cause!
