Ideas for new challenge
Years ago, when I was involved in the local woodwork group, I started a woodwork competition,
the idea was to encourage the non woodworking community to look beyond the nice shiny wood and to recognise the skills involved in the making of the piece.
each participant was given an old CHEP industrial pallet, (this was an item that most non woodies would be familiar with)
the rules were,
- you cold make whatever you liked
- the ONLY addition allowed to the pallet was adhesive and surface finish
(still amazes me how many people were disqualified for adding other stuff)
here are some pics of a few entries.
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Now I'm not suggesting using a pallet again,
just something generic, that is locally available to everyone,(saves any postage or handling )
you know, back in the old days wooden soft drink boxes were all the same,
is there anything like that still around?
any ideas or thoughts anyone?
a couple more pics,
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Underfoot nice works
Just hope Chep never read this forum
although if we went around and collected all their pallets laying on the sides of the road we could build a house full of furniture or 10

I just can't think of anything better for all concerned than the humble pallet.
Old telegraph poles and attachments come to mind, driftwood or "found" wood also, packing crates maybe. I have some old wooden fruit boxes awaiting transformation but you'll mostly find them in Antique stores now.
Railway sleepers could be a possibility, a bit harsh on tools though.
Fence posts? Surely they wouldn't notice one or two missing.

Wow, stunning work there!
I think the limits in a pallet would work better, because of the standard size/configuration.
Thanks for posting.Andy Mac

maybe Bunnies has one of their products delivered in a wood crate or on one of those small pine pallets?
they should be the same all over oz, and most people have access to bunnies,
maybe even some sponsorship..........maybe not

fantastic idea... Maybe the entry fee is 'finding' a pallet then
I get tons of pallets in at my work, they're used for delivering servers, photocopy paper, etc, but they're mostly softwood so that's not brilliant. Still, if you're desperate...
I wouldn't normally dream of entering a competition such as this, but what the heck, if it gets of the ground, count me in...
Cheers,
Dave...but together with the coffee civility flowed back into him

I was just wondering, is "acquiring a pallet" actually stealing??
Not putting a damper on anything....just asking. (personally I love the idea, or Harry72's 2x4 idea)
