Default Ideas to finish this indoor pole/beam junction

So we've got a big old support post in the middle of our living area holding up a substantial laminated timber beam. As you can see we never got around the finishing it and it looks like sin. Any ideas on how we might finish this to make it look more presentable? We'll certainly consider something that will conceal the bolts/strap and perhaps the whole thing....but we can't imagine how it might look or where to begin.

    Ideas??

It would have been better to deal with it before you put the beam up.
At a minimum I would have recessed the strap well into into the pole and used CS head bolts and then bogged over and painted it.

Filling the gap around the top of the hole and ceiling would improved things a bit.

It's so close to the ceiling you could add a light fitting over or suspend a light fitting and use one or both of the bolts to attach the fitting - this will distract attention away from the bolts/strap. The wiring for the lap can sneak out of the gap between the pole and the ceiling

A lamp with a large curved shade that wraps completely around the top of the pole would hide things even better.

Likewise attach some sort of hook to the bolts and hang a plant or art piece.

Attach a WIFI point to the bolts?

Fill the ceiling gap, fill the side of the strap so that it has a 45° slope to the post - that will stop sharp edge shadows attracting attention, and then paint the nuts and filled areas matt white. You may be surprised how quickly you stop seeing it.

Using mdf make a box around the post starting at the bottom of the beam up to the ceiling then just mitre the cornice around it, it will have the effect of a capitol as seen in architecture in the past. It's called a capitol at the top and a plinth at the base. cut a square the internal size of the box (diameter of the pole) cut a hole the same size as the post then cut in half (through diameter) and close off the bottom of the box.

I like the idea of light fittings and they don’t have to be connected to power if existing lighting in the area is adequate. Just my 2c’s worth.

a bit too Victorian Industrial for my taste, but I agree with the general idea.

If you are up to it, the capital could be cone shaped and employ a parabolic curve

You could also do a box from floor to ceiling around the whole pole.

Replace that white upright with a whole log of nicely seasoned and finished timber. Make a highlight out of it rather than what you have.

If the bolts can be undone and the strap removed temporarily, then i'd take it off, chisel out a recess for the strap, recessed deep enough to take it and the nut. cut the end of the bolt off flush with the nut, then fill the gap with plaster and clean it all up, that way you still have the bolts retaining what ever it was to retain, and the straight lines of the pole. (of course hen finishing the ceiling gap). If hey cant be taken of then box it in
