Impossible puzzle
Following the thread of the impossible dovetail, I have an 'impossible' puzzle that is called 'The Mole Creek Puzzle' which i picked up in Tassy. I know if i don't ask you guys i'm going to my grave not knowing the solution but I wonder if i post it here whether one of the clever ones will tell the answer and then no one will buy the puzzle anymore. They use the funds from the puzzle to do up the caves at Mole Creek. And there's probably a woodie sitting in his shed making these things day after day.
What do we think? Post a picture? Maybe the interest will generate more sales? I would reeealy like to know the solution.

In my opinion, anyway. I'm in the mood for a puzzle.
In light of your concerns, perhaps a PM answer might be more appropriate than posting the solution for the whole world to see?Retired member

Yes, that's the one. The puzzles i bought resemble a capital 'E' . One has a pencil through the middle thingo sticking out and the other has a nail. They swear the timber is not steamed, split, bent. It beats me.
If someone does know the answer and PM's me as suggested by Felder (before the thread was hijacked), I will donate $10 to the Mole Creek Cave Fund. It's already cost me $30 for the puzzles and no one knows how to do it.

Sent you a PM on how I make them.
I'm assuming they do it the same way.

This has me intrigued.
I'm with Felder. That pic in the article is a bit fuzzy and out of focus. Can you post a few pictures from different angles so we can get a better idea of what's going on?
edit: - It says in the article that you need lateral thinking. In my mind I reckon it means that he's cheating. From looking at the pic in the article, I can't see any way they can be removed without cheating, especially since people can't work it out, and it looks so simple.
I reckon that he just snaps off one of the middle legs and glues it back on with the nail/pencil inserted. With a bit of sandpaper the join would be invisible.
You could make one in a few minutes and I might do just that. You wouldn't pick a joint in it if it was done carefully, and of course he wouldn't reveal his secret would he now.
Does he say that it can be removed without breaking it?
edit: -I just noticed Ashore's quote below me: -Hmmm. Intriguing.
Ashore might be be right, but twisting is sort of the same as bending.
I'd like to get a closer look at it.Last edited by pawnhead; 24th January 2007 at 04:29 PM. Reason: I noticed the quote below me

Leave it with my friend and I for a few minutes. Between the two of us I reckon we could free that pesky nail.

Impossible puzzle
Well attached are my pictures as requested. I have another model of the puzzle with a pencil though the hole. PM me and put me out of my misery.

Suppose the first thing to think of is the order its done. 1st the two cutouts, then the hole is drilled, then the nail is inserted.
The hole drilled? thats the first puzzle. Cary, is it a good fit or slightly loose
