Default Some info on skirting please...

    Hi there,
I am not extremely clued up on the whole topic of skirting and would like some help...
We have just installed wooden floors into our home, we kept the old skirting but now have decided to it does not look too good,
my question is- is it possible to buy skirting that covers the old skirting???
And what do you call that specific knid of skirting?
Thanx, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nixx and welcome to the site.
It is possable depending on what the existing skirting is and its dimentions. It is a whole lot easier to do if the original skirting is first removed. By what you say I assume the new wood floor now covers part of the front of the skirting. To cover the old skirting the new board will require a rebate so it fits over the old board so it will be on the chunkey side. You will waste a lot of timber (equel to the amount of the existing skirting). Better to cut the old board flush with the new floor and then add a new board just slightly thicker than the old one was to hide the floor edge.
    Regards
    John

By the time you cover the old skirting you may as well have redone the whole lot with new. The cost will be crazy, unless you use something ####. Which from an aesthetically pleasing view will not look nice.

Really depends on your budget. Unfortunately.

    hey there
is there any chance you can post a photo.
depending on existing you may be able to plant a 90 x 16 on the face of existing and put a 22 mm ovolo on the top to cover. this is just one of many ways. even a 22 x 22 square on top will leave you a small quirk...this will change the look compleatly.
try to put a photo in here and i may be able to help further.
    good luck with it

Beat me to it Glen. However it may give a fat unsightly skirting, I would still if possible remove the old stuff.
