So how is this better than a double sided tape like Stylus make?
I fail to see any anvantage over a quality thin double sided tape.
As a matter of fact masking tape degrades and either goes gooey or goes hard and falls off.
You are meant to damask within a short time of painting not 6 months.

And it's a right <insert preferred curse> to get the residue off when that happens.

We use the last one at work http://ppcpl.com.au/product-category...e-sided-tapes/
Even outdoors (under cover) it stays stuck

The method is for immediate use and removal, perhaps ten minutes and not six months, I thought that much was clear.

I have used masking tape on both pieces and a few dabs of superglue. Holds fine for temporary jobs, even with routing using a template.

I have found the double sided tape is too time consuming to remove. To be fair I have only tried cheap double sided tape, cheap carpet tape and also mounting tape so YMMV.
However someone on here showed me that video some months ago, so next time I am going to try that method. Thanks for reminding me.

I heard him say something about his hand finished aluminium beams with sandpaper stuck on being good for 6 months until the paper wore out.

Someone here on the forum pointed me in the direction of the “trick” a number of years ago, I tried it, worked a treat, was strong enough to hold a router template and nothing even looked like moving until I removed it.

No gooey mess to clean up, no partial separation like double sided tape leaving glue and paper on both pieces, much thinner “gap” between the 2 bits joined together. Haven’t wanted nor needed to use “store bought” double sided tape since using this technique.

Have a go and please yourself as to which you prefer, I know what I use.
    Regards,
    Bob

I think he just needs to shop for better double sided tape.

But thanks for posting it anyway, always worth hearing a new idea.

Thanks for posting Chris, but I'll stick ( pun intended) with Tesa industrial. Its great stuff, only .2 thick, and just rolls off with your finger.
There are so many times when you are building instruments that you can't use clamps, this type of tape is indispensable( yes another bad pun) to me.

    Default Also Works with PVA

    Good Morning

I have been using this technique for several years, but with PVA glue, occasionally with contact adhesive. It works very well.

My experience is that it is much more reliable than double sided tapes; even the better ones let go at inconvenient times.

Also, it peals off cleanly. Double sided tape residue can be difficult/slow to remove.

    Cheers

    Graeme
