Interior wooden furniture placed outside
Hi,
I was hoping to give my daughter some old interior wooden furniture to play with outside (an old coffee table and an old TV entertainment unit that I was going to make into a play kitchen). We have no room in the house for these items
Given that these weren't meant to be outside, is there anything I can do to help protect them from the elements (oil etc)? Or will they just end up falling apart really quickly regardless? If they last 2 years, I'd be happy with that, but if they are going to disintegrate in a couple of months, I'll look for another solution. I may be able to put a very small roof over the top to stop direct rainfall but they would still get weather from the sides
I am unsure of the type of timber. It's probably just stained pine
thanks

HI jacy m
If your stuff is solid timber you could paint it with an exterior paint and it may last the time you want,if you keep as much rain off it, it would help.
On the other hand if it is made from any sort of fibre board it will not last very long after it gets wet.
Good luck

Thanks for the painting idea. I hadn't thought of that
The entertainment unit is solid timber. The coffee table top looks to be timber but lots of bits joined together, sorry I dont know the correct term. Finger jointed maybe? Will the glue used in this be a problem with the hot sun on it? There isn't any particle board in the items as far as I can see.

Looks like you will be ok,just give it a couple of generous coats and cover when not in use and I think you will get the life you are after.
