    Default Ironbark sources

    Hi WWF,

I am trying to source some ironbark for some adirondack chairs I have been commissioned to make.

    Looking for 90x19, 120x19 and 90x12

Anyone know any good suppliers in Brisbane?

I have found several decking suppliers that have 19mm boards (not sure how open they are to selling me small quantities) however cant find 12mm anywhere.

Not to be a grinch, but it is truly brutal stuff to work... interlocked ('rowed') grain, splintery, and abrasive as hell. Unless the client has specified it, I'd use something else - merbau? I have a stock of seasoned ex fence post ironbark that I use for tool handles and boat fixtures (cleats etc). That's about the only role in which I've found the pain worth the gain...

For such a small quantity it will most likely be more economical to get the decking and machine down to thickness. You will be paying a premium for a special order otherwise

Why cant you just run some 90x19 through a thicknesser? Surely if you could find 90x12 it wouldn't be much different in price to 90x12 anyway.
