But it looks like a thicknesser to me.

If it's in good condition, I think it's a very good price.

If it’s in great shape, with decent cutters $200 is good. I’d try $180
But not to rub it in but I got a brand new never used, still in wrapping with tie straps, for $250

It's a matter of terminology.
We call them thicknessers, Americans call them planers.
They're both the same device, and work in the same way.
Only comment I will make Tonto, is that those lunchbox thicknessers are really noisy - budget on a good set of hearing protection if you're buying this (and don't already have that sorted).

It is just a thicknesser, I had a similar Carbatec version a few years ago, I hated it ! far too noisy, rubber infeed and outfeed rollers that last about 5 minutes non existant dust extraction and height winder that went up and down on its own when it felt like it. OK for hobbyist or occasional use but that's about it.

Runningman...you just loved saying that. I think I could almost hear you chuckling
midnight man... yeah I hear you about the noise but Ive had these about 10 years nowblue ear.jpg and I love them almost as much as cheese. bluetooth, custom made to my ears, were not cheap then but a lot better now. Earmold Australia
Mark David, surely could be as noisy as the old!!! Ryobi, and Ive tried modding that for better dust extraction and not been totally successful.I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

Yeah! But if you've already got one and the Jet isn't a very significant improvement, why? Now if the Jet had a helical head I could see the sense.

Not without spending more money than the machine is worth. After all you can buy a lunchbox thickie with a helical head for $759 - https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/W815
You'd need to check the Byrd Shelix site to determine if a helical head is available for the Ryobi.
How come you're suddenly flush with funds Tonto? I thought you were poor, like me.
