jewelry box drawers
i've been having trouble getting the drawers to work smoothly. they pull out fine, but they turn and jam on the way back in.
the drawers are 3" high, 22" long and 6" deep.
does any one have any ideas to get these small drawers to run smoothly?

Have you used any kind of guide rails? Those metal draw slide things work well.
Drawers need some kind of a guide to make them stay true when closing. It can be done quite easily by routing a groove in the sides of the drawers and installing a timber guide each side of the drawer that will slide into the grooves and prevent the side movement as it slides in or out. It can also be done easily by gluing or screwing a "n" shaped bracket, metal or made out of timber, to the underside of the back edge of the drawer bottom. This only needs to be fitted to the centre of the drawer bottom. Install a rail below the drawer into the carcase of the cabinet so that it engages the "n" shaped bracket on the drawer and you will have no problem with any side to side movement of the drawer. The bracket only needs to be shallow and will work with no problems this method may be easier at this stage to install rather than the former method I described. Good luck.Reality is no background music.

Looking at the design of your construction, you may not have provisions for the second method I mentioned above but you could still use the routed sides idea in my first suggestion. Also a thought came to mind, have you rounded the back end of the drawer sides slightly so they are not digging in anywhere? A bit of Beeswax may help the situation too.
Reality is no background music.

A couple of things why the draw locks when closing, firstly, the excess amount of clearance, wax the draw sides and inside the cabinet, and finally the position of the knobs, they should be closer to the ends to allow more control of the draw when closing. John.

A long drawer relative to its horizontal depth in the case is always going to be more of a problem because it gets crossed more easily. As nine fingers says, the knobs closer to the ends would give more control and the wax will help.

Is there a lip under the bottom of the drawer? A center runner would
fix the problem.

N/A,
You might try one knob directly in the center of the drawer This way there woulden`t be any fighting with the left or rirht hands and getting the drawer cocked out of alignment.Perhaps a wooden block can be taped on the drawer front to grip just to try and see if this would help.
