When joining thicker boards I often use two rows of biscuits.

the right biscuits
I got a biscuit jointer last year from santa, it looks real nice in the blowmold case, I used it to join the bits of 32mm MDF and particleboard to form the top of my kitchen. I found that buying the buscuits in bulk was cheaper, so I got the caterers pack of assorted creams, the shortbread creams expanded nicely in the cup of tea to form a nice soggy mess on the bottom of the cup!!!

In this world there are people who allow dogs in their lives, and people that cats allow in theirs.

Tradesmans Choice
I reckon Selleys Tradesmans Choice is the best bet.
