    Default Lattice work

Have been watching Japanese furniture maker Kumiko Ishitani make a music stand. I love watching him as it is all about the craftsmanship and the item he is making.

He uses a table saw sled to make the fine lattice work for the stand. I'd love to try my hand at making this myself.
There is a photo of the sled attached but can anyone shed some more light on the process once you have made the sled? I'm not clear on exactly what he is doing and why? He appears to go from one angle to the other to increase the width of the slot he is cutting, not too sure hence this request?

As always any assistance from someone proficient in this would be gratefully accepted.

The cross pieces go through at opposite angles hence the two cuts. The actual cuts would be pointy in the middle at each side.

Taken me a while get a handle on this craft. I've found a great introductory piece others may like to read.
