Default Letterbox Plans

Hi,

I'm currently building a picket fence and I need a new letterbox, just wondering if anyone has any plans or knows where i could find some plans to build a new letterbox. Im after the highlander style, the type mounted through the fence with a vertical letter slot and a newspaper whole?

Any ideas?

Mitre 10 web site has a number of free plans from memory. I'm sure that one of them was a letter box.

Not sure of the style. But to build what you have described shouldn't be that hard. Find a house with one and have a look. Take a few photos.. Estimate a few dimensions. etc.

Then have a go at building a prototype in MDF first. When you're happy with the result. Build the real thing in whatever timber you think is best.

No worries, thanks Greg. Will check out the Mitre 10 website.
What timber would you recommend? I'm only going to paint it with the fence?

Trenyboy, let me first apologize and please don’t be offended. Why do you need a plan to build a letterbox? It isn’t that hard buddy.

Use your imagination and go for it. Go and explore the world of woodworking.

Cheers

If you are painting it then it doesn’t really matter what wood to use. Western red cedar is a good choice but any oz hardwood will do.

I agree with Wongo.. Pretty much any wood would do. As you're painting it. I'd use the same timber as your fence pickets.
