Default Best Stuff Up Ever! Entertainment Unit

    Hi Guys,

I just spent the morning cursing and kicking everything in reach!

What is your best stuff up ever?
I mean, I'm very happy with the end result of the TV unit, but it's not the right size! The mistake was made right at the very begining of the project on the scale drawings, so no one to blame but poor little me....

Pics attached of my best stuff up.
Does anyone want and Australian Red Cedar Enterainment Unit? $3000.

It'll be in the store a few days on "sale" untill i start the replacement.

    Regards
    Steve Thomas

Looks the right size to me.

I make things, I just take a long time.

    Hi Steve,
    Buy a bigger/smaller TV!!

What is the white material you used on the doors? I am considering a similar style of entertainment unit.

The doors are acid etched glass 4mm
standard at most glass and aluminimum places... nothing special, but it looks really cool, and in real life it's a bit more of a grey/green/white...

Doesn't any one have any other "good" stuff ups to share? or am I the only one that doesn't realize there I made a mistake until the VERY END! I need to feel like i'm not the only one

I don't have any photos but.... On my recently completed guitar I did a beautiful job of routing out the cavity on the rear for the controls. It was perfect - then I realised I put it on the wrong side of the guitar - on the top not the bottom. Plenty of ways I could have fixed it, but I did it simply by making a filler block and gluing it in place. It was for my own use so don't mind if the back looks a bit ugly. Is that the sort of stuff up you had in mind?

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

Nice unit Steve, pity about the oversight and the extra material/time cost in keeping the customer happy. Im sure it'll sell one day.

Just on the frosted glass, what side do you have the "frost" on in or out?(looks outside in the pic's, got any better/larger pics?)

    Thumbs up

    Bloody nice unit!!

Could sell it in New Guinea so it could go into a tribal long room.

Steve, I dont think it will be in the store very long if you have any discerning customers. That is a beautiful piece. Trouble is there are a lot of cheap chip board imitation things in some of the big stores, but anyone who wants a real piece of furniture should jump at it for that price.

So.. .. is it too narrow? looks nice though.

Could make a wider lazy suzan type arrangement in the middle to sit on top? then you could angle the tv if you needed to or is it the tv too big.

I guessing that you need to think about the internal dimensions, too small to fit the clients sound system, VCR, DVD player, etc.

Bigger photos? yeah we've got some real good ones, i'll post them when i get back on tuesday.

Kev M got it... the client has Hi Fi stuff huge amps and turn tables etc, and will not fit very well at all...

Like dogadog I too have made heaps of stuff ups but i normally catch them whilst they are happening, some times you get a weird sense of somethings not right here and then you'll notice... but not this time!

Harry, The rough side (etched) is on the inside. I'm not sure if this is correct but it looks good... and the smooth side is easier to clean.

Peter i know your pain, routing those bodies out can be a chalenge and to do it well is great but then to find out its the wrong side.

Liza (Mrs Lumber Bunker) has already put her hand up for this one and we have fairly new equipment and it'll fit for sure but our little girl can't eat TV units! Thou at the moment I'm sure she'd try (teething again back mollers).

Thanks for the moral support guys i feel a little better

As for the cheap chip board stuff, this is a bout as far away as you can get, Sliding dovetails for the top, shelves, and dividers, through dovetails for the cabinet sides, commissioned stainless steel feet, Blum Soft close hinges, etched glass, full extension pull out sliding shelf. etc etc.

Have a good long week end!

That's a beautiful unit, Steve. Am sure it will sell quickly.

As for stuff ups, if my biggest one looked that good, not sure I'd ever admit it!

Worst for me was miscalculating the drawer sizes on a large chest of drawers, ended up with the bottom drawer much smaller than the one above. Sticks out like the proverbial, but the recipient has never mentioned it (at least not to me).
