I still don't see where you explain how the forum gains from your blog Tom?

Go and have a look at my blog Fred.
In almost every case I have set out the procedures that I have used, and photgraphed them so that people can see how they might do it for themselves.
Now, not all woodworkers want or need this, that is why I post a leader, for want of a better term. Lots of people do like the way I have set out my blog and have commented on it. For many who are just starting in woodwork, or who have never done what I am showing, it is of benefit. There are quite a few of these people on the Forum.
So - the Forum benefits from my blog .....................

Tom, you are drawing a very long bow here.

On the one hand you are saying "if you don't want to look at my blog, don't click on the link". Then in the next breath you are saying that people can't skip a thread/posts on the forum and therefore they need to to your blog?

So, in summary your argument is that the forum gains by you not posting your information on it, but instead on your blog, with only a "teaser" (prefer that to "leader") on the forum.

You may see the logic in that, I certainly don't.

Bottom line is you like posting your information on your blog, fair enough, and to generate traffic for said blog you post a teaser on this (and perhaps other) forum.

Like I said before, a link in your signature directs people to your blog too, but wouldn't be nearly as effective as aid teaser post.

Benefit to forum (zero), benefit to your blog is much increased traffic.

Fred, I do not sell anything via my blog - not pen kits not mandrels - nothing.
I have no advertising on my blog. I do not benefit in any way from visits to my blog.
Quite the contrary - people who visit my blog gain some benefit and some have said so.
I have taken the trouble to write the blog and to share it with members of the Forum.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why this thread was started, but since it was, I have felt compelled to defend myself against implications that my motives for doing so are devious.
Why don't people just say thank you .................. or click and move on....................

Tom, I did not start this thread. Like you, I responded to it and expressed an opinion.

You didn't/don't like the opinion I expressed and also responded. I did not single you out, I responded to your post.

Now, nowhere did I say or imply that you gain financially from your blog, all I have said is that you gain hits/traffic.

You may not sell pen kits or mandrels, but you sure do sell one hell of a lot of chisels, not on your blog but on the forum.

You have failed to convince me that the forum gains from your blog, but you have reinforced my view that your blog gains from the forum.

I'll leave it there as I don't want this to get personal, as you have now made it, I prefer to play the ball rather than the man.

I'll try not to be too hypocritical here, but I too am guilty of posting links on WWF to my blog – specifically, a tongue-in-cheek post about horse sauce (animal glue). I wasn't entirely sure about doing it, but since others had previously posted the same link, I didn't – at the time – see the harm in it. Plus, it didn't actually interrupt any discussion.

However, I was reading a thread here recently and came across one of SG's 'leaders' about some technique or other on his blog. It really annoyed me. Certainly, it was only one click away, but it disrupted the flow and interrupted the discussion in the thread. Had I (or anyone else reading the thread) found something on SG's blog I wanted to raise on the forum, then it would have turned into a right fiasco. I didn't follow SG's link.

I write more posts on my blog than I post threads on WWF, but those threads I do post on WWF contain identical material as that on my blog. This is not to feed my ego, but so discussion can run unimpeded as some WWF members apparently enjoy participating in the WIPs. Ego and traffic don't concern me… I don't even have a link to my blog in my WWF signature.

Ego-feeding is as great an incentive to broadcast as drawing in hard cash from a commercial enterprise.

The only benefit I can see from linking from WWF to my blog is for the larger images.
    .
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

If I may point out the forum has its own Blog section Woodwork Forums - Blogs Reading some of the comments here regarding why people do Blogs would you be saying that the forum members who use the Blog section all also have egos.

I have read some of the Blogs from the forum blog section and some are never crossed over to the forum and there is some amazing material within. Why haven't these forum members linked or pointed to their Blog in the forum are they ashamed or hiding.. Many of th forum sponsors have their own Blog and link for either sales or tales.

I also have a Blog shared with LOML and yes I have put just a single update or photo with a link. I wasn't aware I could not do this. So do we stop all links to outside weather they are websites or blogs or sales?

I must admit with all the links with in this forum either to personal websites or commercial ones, blogs, Youtube or any other a single server crash anywhere could render those links usless. Look at all the links to Epay sales usless after sale has gone through, yet the forum has special sections just for that purpose.

Seriously? How on earth did you deduce that from what I said? The answer of course is "No!"

I don't have a problem with links to blogs. If I don't want to check it out I don't click the link.
Forums are for sharing information. A link to a blog in a forum post is just another way of accessing information. There are some informative and entertaining blogs out there. Some, that I now subscribe to, I would not have found without a link from the forum.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Never mentioned you in particular nor was it in relation to anything you posted in particular.

As I was the only one who mentioned egos, it naturally follows you were referring to me and what I said.

What I can't use the word as a statment of my own? It has been implied in the past.

Why would anyone want to generate hits on their blogs anyway I wonder. Perhaps they're trying to gather people of like interests for a hearty discussion on whatever.

What advantage do you get for hit counts anyway, has it got something to do with a Goggle listing hierachy or something or is it more to do with getting known for a particular reason, I suppose that's where the ego thing comes into play?

Seems to me Scribbly (he's the only one I've noticed who's got a link to a blog) is an innocent bystander just wanting to share his passions, can't see anything wrong with that. He does acknowledge the WWF although it's way way down low.

I can't see the problem unless there's a commercial gain to be got from grafting off the WWF traffic, there needs to be way of defining a dividing line to distinguish non-commercial and commercial intent.
