Default Looking to commission a gift

    Hi all,

I have a very good boss that I have worked with for about 8 years now through two separate jobs and looking to commission a gift for him. He has done a lot for me professionally and personally and I have been searching for a small way to say thank-you for a while.

I am actually moving on from my job at the end of April so wanting it before then if possible. I saw this from darrin1200 which I would like to try and replicate if possible. I have spoken to Darrin and he has a lot on and wont be able to make it and ship it in time but has allowed me to use his pictures as a guide:
    Pau Ferro Darts with Case

Basically a 3 dart set with a matching box to hold it. My boss wont use the darts to play, but I imagine as a desk ornament. There is a back-story behind them so it isn't as random as it sounds! I am open to the types of wood used as well.

So, wondering if anyone would be interested in taking on the job, if you could reply here and I will PM you or feel free to PM me to kick it off.

Also thanks Darrin for letting me use your pictures.

Any questions please let me know.

    Cheers

    Ben

Not a problem Ben. I hope you can find someone to do it.

    P.S.
Just did a quick search for someone else, and I found a dart kit supplier in Australia. It might help you or someone your working with to really cut down shipping time.

Hope Ben is OK with me posting here.

The first pic is the sketchup we came to. Next few are the box.

Ben was incredibly, unreasonably patient. I had a wicked flu then nearly killed myself under a sheet of 25mm MDF.

All thanks to Darrin per the first post who was inspiring in his patience and generosity in pointing me to plans and some hints. Kudos dude.

Thanks to Ben for letting me make such an important box for him.

Very impressive Wodjie. I know those timbers must be instantly recognizable to most people on here because of their strong character but I don't know what they are. Could you please give us a brief rundown on the construction including timbers and lining material?

Lace sheoak on top/bottom and also bottom of drawer in inside box. Outer timbers is Cambia (roasted oak) and lined with pigskin split in Tan. Hinges are Brusso.

Sanded ROS to 800. Finish is 3 coats of Kunos Livos. One flood and hour soak, 2 lighter coats with 15 minutes and a good polish with a microfibre cloth.

--> Sheoak care of Dusteaters farm and saved from the fire
--> Cambia is from Manaro Timbers Queanbeyan
    --> Pigskin is leatherco.com.au
--> Brusso from The Wood Works
--> Dart kits from Pops Shed
--> Pen kit is the Executive Clicker from Timberbits

--> Glue is Titebond2 as it dries light brown and hid on the chocolaty timbers well.

The Cambia is a pig to work. It's like charcoal. Sharp blades and an unhesitating hand are absolute requirements. It was quarter sawn and I chose to use the face that displayed the speckles rather than the medullary lines.

Overall this had a lot of challenges. Its the second time I've done the drawer this way and it's not so easy. Slicing it off is very hard as the absolute minimum kerf is needed. The 0.25mm Dozuki, a jig to keep it perfectly straight and two coffees were needed to keep the eye and hand stead.
