Looking for plans
I am looking for some coffee table plans. The table surface you be large, 5'x3' or bigger. Maybe 18" off high. I would like to have some drawers to hold things like remotes, manuals for like the DVD players and stuff.
I am open to all suggestions.
I have not found any decent websites with a large selection.
Many thanks

Do what most of us do, make it the way you want it or what fits.

Im with Harry on this one.
Look at others designs and incorporate whatever suits you.
Furniture stores are probably a good starting point as most of what you will find has been ripped off a expensive design by a copyright ignoring Asian manufacturer.

All of the above.
Also draw it out to scale on large sheet of paper - that will give you an idea if the proportions are correctTom

Wot they said!

I am constantly amazed that people come here looking for "simple" plans   . you guys are correct in what you have said, all it takes is a bit of time and brain power to come up with something unique and FUNCTIONAL.
to date the only project I have made from a printed plan was my Queensize bed.
Surely if you want a "run-of-the-mill" coffee table, GO BUY ONE. if as mj-barton says he wants one X by Y and D high, ( and he can not find a comercial one to meet his needs ) most of his problem is solved.
guess who got out of fthe wrong side of bed this morningI try and do new things twice.. the first time to see if I can do it.. the second time to see if I like it

Welcome to this BB, Barton. Don't mind these guys, they are a little brittle at times, but you will find them to be a great bunch.
I understand both perspectives. I, too, like to work from plans. But it is not always possible to find exactly what you are looking for. So find a plan for a coffee table that is similar to what you want but maybe not the right dimensions. Simply change the dimensions to meet your requirements.
Do as suggested and draw this out full size to see if the proportions are correct.Last edited by DPB; 15th April 2005 at 09:49 AM.

Most of us can design a coffee table 5x3 and 18 inches high, but what little design features can we include. I for one, not being particularly artistic, have to hunt around for ideas on that.
This one, that David Marks put together on tele, appealed to me because of the accent strips on the aprons and the slight taper in the legs. You can always munge the design around to include drawers etc, but I like the look of it.

I had the same thought as most of the others.
There are as many coffee table ideas as there are people who would want them.
I've never used a plan.
I make the coffee table to fit the place it will be changing ideas as I go along.
Do you want it to look light or chunky?
Straight, tapered or turned legs?
While reading this topic I had my own ideas of how it would look from the size and use it would be put to.
A 5'x3' table could have 2 or 3 drawers on each long side plus a drawer at each end.Dewy

There's some great plans of all sorts of odds n ends here:
http://woodstore.woodmall.com/
Also Master woodworker David Marks who hosts "WOODWORKS" has made a number of Coffee & Coffee style tables. Heres a list of the projects he has made here:

Simply goto the DIY Networks Website Here:

From the David MArks Website type in the exact name of the listed project you are interested in, in the Search field (At DIY)................... and you will get a link to detailed plans on how to make the project.
Have Fun

Suggestions for coffe table plans look at headings Dining tables, Japan.woody U.K.
