Looking for a workshop to Rent
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for suggestions on where I could rent a spot in a workshop.
Currently living in an apartment, so creating my own at home isn't an option.
Would love any recommendations or even hear from others who have considered opening their own to other woodworkers.
Thanks

I joined a Mens shed. I can work there for 100$ per year.
I also buy excess tools, and make my own benches, storage ect, and have a very well stocked balcony sized workshop.
This looks close to you

Yeah I have looked at those. Men's sheds are great... If you're a man
None of my local sheds seem very keen to accept female woodworkers into their space. Which is a shame.

That's a real shame. The one I go to in Sydney is extremely inclusive, with members of both genders and all ages.
Have you considering doing small stuff at home? I found even with access to a workshop, I wanted to work at home, so I can make use of the time when my wife and child were sleeping. Using a few hand tools, I made alot of toys at home. Now I use mens shed time to prepare stock, and then do carving and joinery at home.

Yeah that's one of reasons i'm looking for a workshop now. I also really love gardening so my balcony is mostly soil and I always hated when my plants got covered in sawdust. Neighbours don't appreciate the sawdust floating down to their balcony either.
That sounds like a great space to work in. I'm hoping eventually all men's sheds will welcome us ladies, even if it's only one day a week.
So yeah really hoping someone on here is wanting to share their workshop on a casual basis, happy to pay of course but could not commit to a full year lease or anything of that sort.

...especially as they're subsidised by male & female taxpayers. Then again, you probably wouldn't want to be a member of those ones anyway.
You could contact the Victorian Woodworkers Association, they seem to be much more inclusive, but I'm not sure about their facilities.

There are lots of workshop spaces that you can rent by the month. Around Footscray and Brunswick/Coburg there lots. Filled with sculptures, painters and woodworkers. Were ever you find old industrial estates you find artists studios.
This is one place I know people in

Another one to the list: The Shed
Based in Abbotsford.
No affiliation or experience with them, an article featuring them popped up in my news feed earlier this week.

It's a sorry state of affairs when rents are so high and space is so short.
I know a few young people and if you want to be crafty then you have to make sacrifices. It could mean renting out a space however that is expensive or you move further out find an older style house with space, a shed or garage.
I ended up moving to Belgrave to find space and now I moving again for work, cheaper rent and more space.
