    Default Makers mark

I always wanted a custom made markers mark, and I have finally found one that is affordable. Here is one I bought from this guy

    https://www.etsy.com/shop/MakersMarkBranding

It arrived today. I tested it on a piece of Mahogany, Silky Oak and Jarrah. I am very happy with it. I cannot wait to use it on my next commission. The price is USD $85. Graphic design and postage are included. All you have to do is send him a clear image of your design in jpeg format.

The mark is my surname in Chinese.

    Hi Wongo,
Looks great! How have you coloured it?
    I presume it's a 'branding iron' type?

Looks great .... I would love to go down this path but I don't know what the Chinese symbol for Smith will actually look like

Yes it is a branding iron. I heat it up with a portable gas stove.

It looks great, Scott, but I'm not sure if it says 'Made in China' or 'Sweet & sour chicken'.

    I love it.

I've always liked japanese and chinese symbols. I think its partly because the meanings not immediately obvious to me.

You might like to experiment with different colours as well…..eg. push the brand in deep. and push a putty in. After it cures you can sand back and you can end up with a nice affect. uno. fine black outline around a colour.

but then 'putty's a dirty word. Some may screw their noses up at that even though your only using it in the brand.

Thanks Jake. I think it is pretty cool too. So much so I am considering placing it in a more visible part of my furniture. I wonder if my customers would like it.

I reckon you could put it on the end of a table, or somewhere visible on other furniture. You could brand a rocking horse on the rump.

Probably not on the table top. Maybe on the rail or leg.

I reakon you could get away with putting anywhere you like, assuming that you have chinese heritage. (is that true anyway. I've never met you ?)

I can't use them. I did try once and people rolled their eyes at it.

I love the look of branding and bought a genuine brand from I think it was Japan. Ebay. here….
    http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/m.html?_o...brand&_sacat=0

    It means …. ' eternity'.

I was doing a few serving boards up and I thought they might look good on the handle. Wasn't received well. I guess because I'm…..caaaaaaucation…..as if it really means something.

not that its my preference, but I reakon you'd be safer just putting it where all woodworkers do. Under the table top in a corner. People who are in a position to influence your career generally tend to be a pretty conservative bunch. imo. Assuming your career minded. I'm not.
