Martial Arts Enthusiast With Technical Assistance Requirements
So, I've been training in Taekwon-do for many years now. Due to a couple of knee surgeries (and too many pies), I'm not overly light on my feet any more, so my fortè is now board breaking.
I've recently moved into my first home, so can finally build myself a board-holder for the purpose of practising on my own. We have a perfect space down by the pool, however: naturally, the wife doesn't want an "ungodly eye-sore ruining the Feng-Shui" (not her words, but that's MY take on her response).
So, this leads me to my query. There is a concrete "thing" constructed by the builder which was apparently supposed to become a pizza oven eventually (see photo). My goal is to clear away the rocks and create a gated storage area underneath. Enclosed in which would be a retractable board-holding mechanism to keep it out of site when not in use.
It would require to be braced by the concrete structure in it's extended position. I'm looking for some technical assistance in the design of this mechanism. I've come up with some amateurish ideas which I will also share here, but need some wise ideas to complete the project!
Thanks everyone, please reassign this post to a different forum if necessary.

I'm looking to create a hardwood version, perhaps using sleepers??
Here are some old-school and modern variations:images-5.jpgimages-4.jpgimages-3.jpgimages-2.jpg

I am certainly not an engineer so can not comment on those terms. Personally I like the old school version solid and heavy. Then again I can see the merits of the model metal constructed version how it can be adjusted.
It might be worth while making a mockup version(maybe full size) out of some rubbish wood at least you will see how this looks and feels.

Came out well although from the pic it looks a bit low, for flying kicks, hand techniques etc.

The video shows it in it's raised position. Not a whole lot higher, but enough for the hand techniques when the board holder is pinned at it's highest point.
