Mesh sanding discs 150mm - Smirdex
I was meant to try these 2 years ago but never got around to buying a 150mm ROS so never did but I know some forum members have.
6" Smirdex 750 NET Velcro Discs | Auto Repairs Direct
I like to hear some feedback as I am finally about the upgrade my sander and will new discs.
OR
Has anyone tried these?
Smirdex Ceramic Velcro Discs 150mm 15 Holes - Packs of 100 | Ceramic Discs for sale in West Melbourne
or even these?
Buy Online Smirdex Velcro Discs 15 Hole 150mm Packs of 100
That hole pattern should fit festool right?
Just dont know if its worth paying extra when the cheap stuff is that cheap - will the mesh disc last 2x longer than the al ox yellow disc?

I use the Smirdex net discs. They're brilliant, last heaps long and beautiful finish. Once you've used net discs you'll never go back to ordinary sanding media.

Hi Aldav,
In your experience how do the Smirdex compare to Abranet?
Many thanks,

I use SIANET 7900 from The Sandpaper Man. Easily outperforms abranet.

Just out of interest I tried the mesh discs available at Bunnings. Similar claims of lasting 2-3 times as long as the regular discs. The performance was ok, but it wasn’t possible to judge the longevity as the mesh separated from the backing on first removal so they could no longer be attached to the sander. Not all that great when you want to move up grits which requires removal of the disc before it’s worn out.
Unfortunately this wasn’t a once off and was consistent across all grades - so it wasn’t a bad batch issue. I had intended to take them back - but decided it was just easier never to purchase again. Could be user error- but not sure how many ways you could remove a disc off the sander.
I will be keen to try some of the better alternatives mentioned here, but thought this feedback could be helpful for others.

The mesh discs that I can find are:
Abranet
Sia
Norton
Smirdex
Granat net
Norton, Abranet, Sia is all about 2x the price of the Smirdex!
Abranet is aluminium oxide, Sia is aluminium oxide and ceramic and Norton and Granat net and Smirdex are ceramic. There is also Abranet HD Ace and Ace HD which is ceramic for a little more.
None of this equates to real work performance I think...
Is there a padsaver for the festool sander available? The festool branded one is $23 which seems like quite a lot for what it is!

The Abranet and Smirdex are both 100% excellent.
5 stars, two thumbs up, absolute recommend.
The Sia I've used for my thickness sander. Not the 150 discs but belts and these are knockout good for thickies.
On pad savers, let me find the link. I've posted it a few times previously along with the pads themselves. A local mob sell excellent ones that last forever and are a great price.

In my experience the SIA offering outlasts both abranet and abranet ace. Norton blaze disks are another level up in terms of longevity. I’ve tried them all, extensively. My go to is the SIA product.
