Angry Mitre end on Triton Mk 3

Have to cut 45Deg ends on 90mm pine for table surround. Do not have a drop down or sliding mitre saw but am sure that somehow I can use the old Triton Am hopeless at using mitre boxes [portable] as such. 1.9m x x 1.1m lengths.

    Hi Golfinggazza

The Mk3 comes with a sliding mitre fence. It's not wonderfully accurate, so it would be best to check the angle with something that is accurate. All you have to do is:

    1. slot it into the track to the left of the saw with the angled part forward (it has sandpaper glued to it)
    2. Adjust the angle - so it is accurate.
    3. Put the pine you are cutting in front of the mitre fence so that the cut will occur at the right length.
    4. slide fence and timber forward onto the blade

On the Triton, it always helps to cut two facing mitres at once, with one on each 45 deg side of the protractor. That allows for any slight inaccuracies in the setting, ie. if one side is 44.5, the other is automatically 45.5. They also say you should use an angled stop block for length - hope all that makes sense  .

    Cheers,

That's fine if the pine is flat (90mm face up).

However, if the pine goes around the table vertically (90mm face out) then you won't be able to use the sliding mitre fence because the saw won't cut deep enough in the "table mode". If you had the Triton bevel ripping guide you could possibly do it.

The other way would be to use the Triton in the "sliding mode" with the saw set to 45. You would need to support the work.

Yep you got it right. The problem IS with the timber being on end and am not sure how I can use the cross cut slide [whether I have enough depth to be able to tilt and have a support jig ??]

Not sure what a PM is so resorted to grabbing you while online I hope. Lang Lang is not much more than a drop kick down the road but will probably persevere for a bit as I know it can be done [ read it somewhere sometime]. Otherwise will resort to buying a slide compound saw. Not dear these days but...

Webshots is slow and to show pics on the BB I just use the manage attachments option, doesn't take long.
I very rarely use it now and do not pay.
Most of the stuff is out of date, except the kitchen which I continually chastised about.

    Default Mitres

Whether or not you can do it with the Triton depends on your saw blade diameter and the thickness of the pine (90x19?mm or whatever). If it all fits along with some kind of jig, you would be best "climb cutting" pulling the saw accross the work, I find it a bit scary working under the slide. If my memory serves me right, there is a section in the instructions on this subject.

You could try posting another thread in the Triton User part of this forum, you might get more advice.

    Default Triton and mitre cut.

Thanks for that advice. I am finding it a bit scarier after a major boo boo the other day working from the wrong side in rip mode managed to cut half of my ring finger off with damage to my lttle pinkie and middle digit. So beware and take heed of warnings. Thing just grabbed and pulled. Have the saw all set up properly again and everything in "safe" mode. Should have realised there was a Triton section. Still have lots of work to go and will be limited for about another two weeks I would guess.
