    Default Planing Pine

    G'Day

I am a novice and after some advice.

When I put Hoop Pine through my Ryobi Planer, it takes about half a mil more for the last 60mm or so as the board is leaving the planer.

Can this be stopped?? Am I doing something wrong??

    Thanks Waz

This is called 'snipe' and occurs when the end of the board is no longer being held down by the infeed roller. You can reduce or eliminate it by applying upward pressure on the board as it comes out of the thicknesser. You don't hve to apply too much, just enough to hold the tail end down.

Snipe sometimes happens at the front end of the board too.

Thanks for the reply, seems to happen even when taking a very fine cut.

I have been planing boards before cutting them so I then remove that bit but today I made a breadboard which was only just long enough so did not want to cut it.

    Thanks again Waz
