Move over Norm
This should set the cat among the pigeons.
I changed over to Foxtel digital yesterday and last night caught a new program on the "How To" channel
Its called Wood Works and the presenter, in my opinion as a beginner, did a great job of making a describing how to make a display stand.
He even did veneering using a bandsaw.
He spent much more time on how to make and setup the equipment because he was not undertaking a project as large as many of the ones that Norm makes.
On the basis of 1 episode I am hooked and have my video programeed for 2pm when it is on again

Almost anything on woodwork is worth watching, but that guy is not in Norm's class, and the show is basically an advertisement for Ryobi.

Kenmil are you sure you were watching the correct show??
but that guy is not in Norm's class, and the show is basically an advertisement for Ryobi.
I think Both he and Norm are very good and have their own unique styles.

Kenmil
I think you must be thinking of another show. There was another episode last night. He made a very nice table form walnut.
There is no mention or sight of anything remotely Ryobi.
This guy does not have a fixation on stacked Dado cutters like Norm

Ok all you digital people  , is Foxtel digital worth having? Apart from the David Marks show should I bother getting it.
The adverts just seem to be a load of hype as far as I can tell and you seem to loose the movie channels on the basic package. The selecting camera views and news stories etc all seems very good but I doubt after the first thrill that i'd use it.
Your honest opinions would be welcome
Cheers Dave

Wood Works is a great show but is aimed more toward Arts and Crafts style than the practical stuff that Norm makes. David does make beautiful stuff though.
DIY Tools and Techniques is on straight after Wood Works and is worth watching just for the laughs. I saw an episode where he was telling you how to clean brushes and he said to make sure you mix the left over paint with plenty of water before you pour it down the sink.
DIY Woodworking is a total waste of time except for the laughs. I can guarantee you that double stick tape on the joints would be more effective than his glueing techniques.
As for Marta Stewart, I don't understand how that woman became a squillionaire. To say she is inept is a compliment.
Having said that, the subscription is worth it just to watch Wood Works and Yankee. Maybe we all need to to email the DIY channel to get more stuff of the same quality.

I'm glad you weren't referring to the 'WoodWorks' show on UK digital TV.
It's very much a rough woodwork program made by someone who had done some nice boat building in another series but Norm he aint. He made a round oak outdoor table but didn't use spacers on the table top slats so errors showed up badly with gaps double the size on one side of a slat to the other.
His first project was a work bench made from 6"x2" and 3/4" plywood. He rough sawed the legs then made them level by propping them level with a spirit level then placing some 6x2" on the floor and marking round them to get the level & sawing to suit after the legs had been nailed on.
The entire bench was made by nailing together although it was fairly sturdy even though rough.Dewy

craigb
you still get the ABC as normal.
the main differences are the channel numbers are now 3 digit, say 107 for channel 7, 110 for 10 etc
and for some reason channels 7 and 10 wont provide programming details for the online TV program
