offcut timber
Hi
we are making chopping board with timbers in Sydney so plenty of offcut come every day.
In the winter season is ok, as all offcut can be picked up for fire wood
However in summer season, we are in big trouble as we need to pay over $3000 for that rubbish.
at least one palette of offcut timber come every day . they are fully dried not treated
camphor laurel
Does anyone have a idea or solution for me?
thanks Sewon

If you advise which Sydney suburb you are in you may get some interest from our members and any wood clubs operating in the area.

Camphor Laurel is good for keeping insects and bugs away. Perhaps cut the pieces up into smaller sizes and sell them for household use.
I drill holes in mine and put them on coat hangers, or cut them up into small blocks and scatter them throughout the house to keep insects away. Just a thought.

I'd start with an Add on Gum tree
Put a call into the NSW Mens Shed Association and get a notice put into their newsletter.

G’day Sewon.
If you’re in the west, I’d surely appreciate some offcuts for toymaking but only a small quantity or I’d get shot!
Cheers crowie

I too would be interested to buy some pieces, for box making and turning purposes.
Have you a rough guide of the size(s) of offcuts you're generating?
Chaps here on the Marketplace (Timber) section selling offcuts all the time, they don't seem to hang around for too long either

$3000 every how often? Waste companies charge very different prices to different customers. I can tell you what you should be paying and if you're not maybe shop around for a better price.
A stacked pallet of timber is about a tonne, assuming you stack it 1.0m high. Camphor weighs about 0.5t/m3 so an australian pallet 1.165m X 1.165m X 1.00m high X 0.5t/m=0.67 tonnes). A tonne of timber costs on average $120 to dispose at the recycling tip so $120X0.67t=$80. A crane truck would typically charge about $60 per pick up as long as you're not too far from the tip, so you have a total cost of $140 max (Victorian prices) and then maybe add 30% profit margin for them so you're looking at $200 per pallet. Sydney is usually a little more expensive, but I hope you're not paying much more than that?
