An Offer to All Aussie Members
Due to the overwhelming response to supply me with tools to set up my workshop I would like to help the members of this wonderful forum as a sincere thank you.
If anyone has a hand tool or tools which are slightly or heavily rusted I would be pleased to derust and clean those items completely free of charge. I'm sure someone has mistakenly left a tool in the garden or some place where it got wet and rust set in. No matter how bad it is I will completely remove every speck of rust and guarantee not to hurt healthy metal. If the tool is chromed the rust will be removed but obviously the chrome can't be replaced but just slight surface rust just leaves slight pitting which is hardly noticeable. Also most tools heavily rusted will turn out with a deep black sheen to it. Sort of shiny but black. I have spent almost a month derusting 24 hours a day every day and have perfected my system.
As I said it's perfectly free but some assistance with freight costs would be appreciated. The tools will definitely be returned to you in a much healthier condition than when you sent it. Obviously there will be no charge to return tools to those kind people who sent me tools to set up my shop. It's the least I can do. I have to keep the size to a maximum length of an average hammer but can fit a hacksaw frame with a little juggling. If the response requires I will gladly expand the size. Your tools will be logged in and photographed to ensure you receive the same tool in return (although you may not recognize it)
So have a look in your workshop and send tools and rust and get nothing but tools back. Guaranteed.
Sincerely Stu
There is no catch, this is a genuine offer.

Thanks Robo,
Nice to talk to you for the first time. How could the workshop not go well with so many wonderful people helping. There's a lot of everybody in it an without them it would echo a bit. I have to sort my bedroom out today, my wife said the smell of WD40 is seeping through the place. Most of the tools are nicely cooked and actually working. I had some which were rusted shut but just the electrolysis got them working. I good soaking in oil and they are now ready for some work.
Please take advantage of my offer. You must have something that rust has got a hold of and once that happens it can only get worse. Send it and give it a holiday and a facelift and tan. I did a multi blade penknife last night and went out at 4am to find it nicely done both sides and a good wash and oil and it just needs a slight sharpen up and it's good to go.
Thanks for the kind words and all the best to you and happy woodworking. Kind regards Stu

I'll keep an eye out but the only thing I can think right now of is my small handplane which I just brought back to life the hard way (oil stone, wd40 and elbow grease) I am working on the lathe bed at the moment, but I don't think it will fit in the post bag
The centre looks a bit high so this might take a while. (hope the pictures work)Cheers,
Shannon.

Hi Stu,
Greetings from the other side of the continent.
What a generous offer.
Is there any chance that you might be able to post some information about your system "I have spent almost a month derusting 24 hours a day every day and have perfected my system." please.
I have some very rusted equipment that electrolysis might work on. [literally tonnes] I would be very grateful if you would post what you have learnt so that I can perhaps get a head start into this process please.
I'm also glad that you are up and about and enjoying your wood work. Thank you for making these forums even better by your contribution. All the very best, Chris

I doubt that I have anything setup the way bedbug has but I will post what I have done for a lathe restore that I am currently playing with.
https://www.woodworkforums.com/f8/lat...09/index5.html
Post 63 shows the setup.
There is more information on this site and on the web. I will say this put the positive on the metal that is going to be sacrificed and leave the connector out of the water. In the water I also mixed some Washing Soda that I got from Woolies.
One other thing, Lectric Washing Soda according to their packet it is Australian Made and Owned.

Stu, Does your rust removing process work on garden tools too ?
Was using a crowbar the other month in the garden to remove a stuborn rock, got distracted by visitors, result completely forgot about the crowbar, only to find it again today, while doing some weeding by hand,- lying on the wet soil, covered in rust. The crowbar is about 6ft. in length, x 35mm. dia., Or will it be the old wet & dry paper with turps rust-removal clean-up job for me ?
Roger

Roger - try diluting a couple of tablespoons of citric acid in hot water then rub it onto the crowbar. Should be able to wipe it off somewhere between 15 minutes and three hours later, then oil straight away. Rust will be gone and you can use the leftover to make sherbet
