Oregon is good for...?
I have just been given 15 4-5 metre lengths of Oregon from 7inch wide to 12 inch wide and about an inch and a half thick.
It seems like it was used as flooring or roofing and it will all need to go through the thicknesser. It will still have all the old rust stained nail holes, which can look pretty cool.
My question is, what is Oregon best for? Indoor / outdoor furniture, pergola or whaterver???Try to look unimportant, they may be low on ammo.

I have several indooor pieces made from recycled oregon. The recycled stuff is usually old growth, quite hard for a softwood, and great for all kinds of furniture. One piece is stained with a walnut (I think) which gives it a lovely, warm colour. I have a large round table of recycled oregon, again stained with something I can't remember, that has held up very well for 7 or 8 years. Also have a workbench made mostly from recycled oregon with just some danish oil as a finish.
Can be inconsistent in shade and colour (thus the stain), but I've found it a nice material to work with once it's been dimensioned and all the metal is removed.

New workbench.
New workbench legs and base. Lami some of your stock and get some posts too!
Tony.Don't pass them by! Be daring and caring!
Dampen their misery....sit with them and talk a little.
Buy them something to eat and a tram fare to a local mission.
I'm so lucky that I've somewhere to live and have family support.

one of my favourite timbers.
can be used outdoors for pergolas outdoor furniture and indoors.
it obviously has some structural ability being used for pergolas etc.
polishes up real nice. i'll be making all my kitchen cupboards and pantry from oregon.
raised panel/glass panel etc. all recycled-a metal detector is vital

That old oregon is lovely stuff, especially with the tight grain pattern. I stockpiled the stuff for years when our old rural tip was still open and have just about used it all since for furniture, kitchen cupbourds and so on. Don't waste it where its going to be painted, use some pine instead!

hello BobL!
yeah, that would be my only concern for the kitchen.
but my stuff is also recycled, and i guess the occasional touch up job
was always on the cards. small price to pay for one of my fav's.
my bench tops are going to be laminated Karri and that's pretty hard.
