Default OT? Brass placque found inside a tree - WA

    G'Day,
    second time's a charm..

I was cutting some firewood and found this brass placque inside a karri block. I'm sure there's some lesson in here for safety, wood work, and metalwork... but for me there is the curiousity of the story behind it.
grateful if anyone knows what the first character in the engraving is - is it a "T" or a "Y", or?
so evidence left of the screws - and the placque was well and trully ingrown - pretty much 150mm of timber each side of it.... just sheer good luck that the inclusion caused a weak spot in the wood which meant it split parallel to the placque, instead of finding it with a tool tip.

    Thanks,
    Des

Looks like a copperplate "S" to me, making it Symes. How big is it? Size might rule in/rule out a few options for where it might have come from.

Strange to have it shaped like a dog bone .... and there are "" "" around the name.

    Mystery for sure

I'd guess that the family dog "Symes" or "Tymes" was buried there
    either that or the butler!

What's the date underneath it? 1929?

1929 is the date - I'm going to contact the firewood people to see if they know where the tree came from.
I'm thinking horse, dog, or someother "pet"
