PA Multitool Attachment for a Grinder
Hi
Does anyone have much experince with using one of these?
http://www.multitoolaustralia.com/
I want somethng touse to sharpen chisels and pne blades, I have tried scary sharp method and water stones etc but is just too hard.
Was going to get a Worksharp version 3 however I have been given a voucher to a store that stocks these multitools and you can get a sharpening attachment.
If anyone can share their experience using one of these would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I've got one and find it quite handy for all sorts of general metal and shaping tasks, but I don't know if I'd get one just specifically for sharpening tools. I use it for that, but I think it is better as a freehand device (the sharpening jig for it costs like an extra $150). Built like the proverbial, they are a quality unit.

Unless you have a slow speed grinder I wouldn't bother, takes a bit of effort to get it set up right between chisels etc
Cheers

Multitool attachments running on standard 2850 rpm grinder are generally too fast for the usual carbon steel chisel and plane blades and will destroy their temper..
They will work better running on a 1440 rpm grinder but only as general bevel formation tool and are not a replacement for black flattening or final cutting edge devices like diamond plates or water stones.

Great tool I would not be without one, however for sharpening all you need is a bench grinder + oil stone

They used to be very good, but are now made in you know where.
Hopefully their quality control has improved, have had 2 replacements of the large aluminium wheels which attach to the grinder. The second was better than the first but still needed balancing before it ran as well as the old Aussie built one that a mate of has had nearly for ever.
Personally, I would not use it for sharpening as others have said above but it is great for cleaning up bits and pieces as well as shaping curves in timber.Regards,
Bob

I have one & bought the chisel jig (Looong time ago) - don't use it - it runs way too fast & you end up blueing the steel. Its good for general metal work, and find it occasionally good for woodworking tasks. However I would suggest you buy one of the Tormek look-alikes (Scheppach, record, jet etc) if you really want a machine for sharpening

German design and technology Great, but it didn't say made in Germany.
It may be terrific but I would check it out first rather than buy unseen.Regards,
Bob
