John, most 2 pack finishes (except maybe plastic layers that are poured on) need to be sprayed. Which opens up the spraying can of worms.

My advice, if you want a durable, easy to apply, easy to fix finish - go for Feast Watson "Floorseal" - available from most hardwares or paint shops. They use it on basketball courts, general flooring, etc - but it also makes a good furniture finish. It's an "Oil / Polyurethane" mix - a bit like Danish oil, only with more polyurethane added.

IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A SPRAY GUN SET-UP (???) then I recommend you spray on your coats of Floorseal. The finish is way more even. However, if not, not to worry. I'd suggest you apply maybe 4 coats - brush it on carefully. Follow the instructions on the can re drying times etc. But most important. Beg / borrow or steal a random orbital sander and sand back between coats with 320 grit sandpaper. After you apply the fourth coat - allow to dry. This will now be a super durable surface & the wood will look great. Nice satin finish.

I have a computer table my 2 teenage kids have worked hard at destroying. But the Floorseal has stood up to it. If you do get scratches - you can take a rag and rub on some more floorseal. OR - to really make a beautiful finish - get some Ubeaut EEE Ultrashine (manufactured by the sponsors of this website) and rub this over your final coat of floorseal. Then fix up dings with a bit of EEE Ultrashine. It's really good stuff.

Good luck.
