    Default Quick project: Sushi Trays

One of my favourite cuisines is Japanese.

One afternoon after clearing out my renovated workshop I found bits and piece of timber - bound to happen after all the penturning... So I decided to make my own set of Sushi Trays.

    Timber combinations I've used are:

    Huon Pine & Jarra

    Queensland Maple & Tasmanian Blackwood

Pretty simple and very useful chowing down on Japanese dishes!

I've added the project plan and step-by-step video on my blog - Sushi Trays « TimberBits Blog

Very nice. Do you forsee any issues with the long-grain to end-grain joints ?

Gluing end grand to long grain is well understood to be a very weak joint.

That is why I use the domino biscuits to reinforce the joint. Domino biscuits is basically a loose mortice and tenon joint which will greatly increase the strength of the joint.

Because the trays will get washed in soapy water, I also use Titebond III which is a waterproof PVA Glue.

These two factors combined will greatly increase durability of the joint.
