Rebuilding Oregon Double Hung Sash Windows - What timber to use?
I'm looking at rebuilding a couple of old rotting timber double hung sash windows, both the frames and the sashes. These are in a really old nothing special house.
The existing windows are constructed from oregon (douglas fir) and I intend to paint them on completion but I'm not sure what timber i should use when rebuilding them?
Western red seems overkill/expensive, and Oregon appears to be hard to source. I'm hoping to get 5-10 years out of whatever i use.
Would really appreciate some guidance/recommendations.
Thanks.

If you can get old growth Oregon from a recycle yard that would work. The newer plantation stuff has little rot resistance.
All of my windows and trim is WRC, but that was when it was a third of the price.
BTW, We have had good luck priming everything with Zinnser oil based primer which you can buy, oddly enough, at Bunnings. It does a good job blocking tannin bleed through which can be vexing on WRC and other timbersIt's all part of the service here at The House of Pain™

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm Sydney based.
I hadn't thought on second hand lumber yards to source oregon. Will see if there are a few about.

I'd be chasing some second hand WRC or Californian Redwood rather than oregon. Ive got plenty of Redwood if you want some.
