Default Recommendations: A selection of sanding grits

I realise this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question...but...

I'm about to order a few bits from Axminster in the UK, and thought I'd get a selection of Abranet discs for my 150 ROS as prices seem quite good.

I'm after some recommendations for a general 'toolkit' of abrasive grits - what do you have lying around that you use most of?

Just getting into the woodworking thing; Building paulk workbenches etc out of ply, and aim to be making stuff out of reclaimed/recycled wood at some point.

I have some 80 and 180 granat discs which were on special. The 180 has been adequate in smoothing over the ply for the workbench.

Should I be getting some 40/60? And the finer stuff? 240, 260 and beyond...

I'm not going to be making fine furniture any time soon.

depending on the postage -- which in large quantities can be expensive -- I'd be suggesting 100 packs of each of 60, 80 and 100 (or 120) grit and 50 packs of 150, 180, 240, 320
while this sort of quantity will set you back 3 or 4 hundred dollars it should last you several years.

The general rule I was told is not to jump more than 2 grades at a time, so definitely get 120 to go between 80 and 180 (allowing you to skip 100 and 150).

60 is handy to have for when you need to remove a lot of material, 240 is arguably as far as you need to go on timber, maybe 320 (I know people will disagree with me on that).

Ofttimes I find 80 too coarse with 100 being a better starting point. In that situation, I like to spend a few minutes with 150 before changing to 180.
