I have some difficulties in life. I find it difficult to throw stuff away as, I like to think, I see potential value or purpose. For example I was keeping old aluminium bottle tops for use in mixing epoxy glue. I realised today that I don't really need any more....for the moment as I would have over one hundred!
However, that is not the point of this post. It is that I do tend to keep nuts, bolts, washers, screws and other pieces of hardware that in my deranged mind I believe will be useful at some point. In the past I have used commercial organisers:

but it is never enough and recently I bought this:
P1090176.jpgP1090178.jpg
and this:
P1090180.jpgP1090181.jpg
They didn't really suit the purpose and they are starting to be more expensive than I would wish. I found these in the waste skip at work. They originally contained some electrical gizmos, which I ripped out and chucked away. Yes, actually threw something away. An idea germinated:

It occurred to me I could cut up some small cream containers and it would be an improvised "organiser." The 300ml containers are cut using tin snips, but scissors would do. Once the first one is cut, it can be used to mark the rest:

It looks a bit like this:
P1090174.jpg
or with 600ml containers. The squashed one in the middle is a 300ml. I didn't straighten them up for the photo shoot.

Of course, you can use any container. This is a 2L ice cream container with 600ml thickened cream cartons:
P1090175.jpg
and you don't have to corner the market in thickened cream containers. There are many containers that could be adapted to whatever you are using. Shoe boxes could be another large container.

As I was going through this process I realised that I could adapt something else, but more to follow...

On our trip to Tassie we found a winery by the name of Apogee. We were impressed and have since ordered more wine, which arrives in a box like this:
P1090183.jpg
Inside it has six divisions, which I had used for miscellaneous nuts and bolts:
P1090184.jpg
but it was a bit large for the items and as I was sorting out the stuff for the above post, I realised that the 600ml thickened cream cartons fitted in quite nicely:
P1090186.jpg
and so it developed, but I need more containers:
P1090189.jpg
I have two more of the gray boxes and I have to find somewhere else to put the contents.

One has long salvaged bolts in it and needs a tray like this
P1090192.jpg
And why, you may ask, would anybody want rusty coach bolts like those? Good question and I don't really have the answer other than to say they may come in handy, particularly when I finally build the shed. They actually clean up really well. The one in the middle represents just under a minute on the wire wheel.

I think there may be a help line for any of you who have experienced problems like the above. Unfortunately, I can't offer any advice where to access it as I have never needed it myself.
Regards
Paul
PS: None of the above suggestions are particularly flash looking, but if function is beauty.....you're in!Bushmiller;

I have recycled these, there is actually three now, but I only a picture of two them.
These are now in the process of being converted into our workshop,
An yes you can walk from one container to the other internally, ie we have cut out bits of walls.
I might do a separate thread later, with better pictures, ie ones I didn’t take [emoji849].
Cheers Matt.

The small plastic Gippsland Yoghurt containers are very useful as they have lids. Great flavours as well.
Several years ago, I decided that my workshop would be glass free so plastic jam and honey and jars of all sizes replaced the glass for nails etc. No problem with broken glass now.Tom

I always keep a couple spent caulking tubes on hand for dispensing large amounts of whatever I've mixed up or yellow glue... I go through a couple a day at work and if I blow the plunger out before the silicone or gap filler sets up with the tap or air, they come out easily.
