    Default A recycled bed

The little fella (no so little 9yo) needed a new bed. Was going to do a WIP but since I've go no work on at the moment it was full steam ahead.

So off to the timber stash of recycled gems I've had for some time now to choose a 'select grade' of timber.

    Here's some of what I selected/found.

I had a couple of old bed heads and a bed end (covered in paint) so it was out with the strippa. Sorry no pics.

Any way after 4 days, slicing and dicing on the table saw shoving it through the thicky and punching it with the morticer I had heaps of sanding to get done.

Once all that was finished out with the glue and clamps and waiting time. Then applying a suitable finish. A family mixture (secret recipe), still to give it a coat of wax.

A couple of bed side tables and bed head and end. The top of the mattress will be about 3' (900 mm) off the ground. So plenty of room underneath for storage. (next project)

Still working on the bed base. One those old metal bases with the springs on it.

I just remove all that stuff and put a set of slats across it.

Very nice work, I particularly like the bed side tables.

    Thanks Bart.

They have just 2 shelves (no draws). Had enough of young kids and the draw combination.

Thanks Arthur. He hasn't seen it yet. Won't get the kids till next weekend.

His bed will rival his sisters. His is higher off the floor than hers. It's on about 50 60 mm in it though.

    Good stuff.

Even better that you have used recycled timber.

I'm also a fan of the bed-side tables, they look great. I think they would look awesome with some nice draws but understand your reasoning for leaving them out, maybe they are something that can be added later on.

Some of the timber, especially the bed head and end came up a treat. Even better when you know someone threw it out not knowing what lay underneath the paint.

Yes I would have loved to put a drawer in but as you said it can be added later.
