Red Box is it safe for cutting boards
Greetings all,
I have a nice lump of red box, Eucalyptus Polyanthemos, from the Daylesford/Hepburn area in Victoria. I was intending to make an elliptical shaped cutting board, as a present. I have noted in the past, BobL and others, pointing out some timbers that are risky to use for food contact. Mr Google yields no information.
Does anyone know of any objections to using red box for a cutting board?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers, Redbog

IMHO redbox would be one of the more user friendly timbers, it is very dense but just remember different people react differently.

Red Box does not ring any alarm bells for me. If I had some, I would use it for a cutting board.

These are cutting board blanks I cut up and ran through the thicknesser for a bloke from the mens shed.
Timber milled in 2007 so it's nice and dry.
I know this is Box but not sure if it is red box.

Thanks to all for responses
Thank you for everyone for their replies, I'm pretty sure that if red box had problems somone would know. The piece I have was thrown on the rubbish pile by the builders, at a mate's stone and timber house build, at his hillside block outside Hepburn in Vic.
The builder is a nice young bloke, but obviously a timber barbarian! Had to rescue this offcut, ( local timber from local mill), it was my sacred duty! 1150 long, 240 Wide, actual thickness 50mm.
The piece is a bit rough, but will dress up and post a pic.Has a bit of pale sapwood on one edge, which I love for a bit of feature.
Will post a picture of the timber when cleaned up, and also post a picture of the mate's "block" house, and the view from the build site. You'd pay money for the view!
Sorry for reply delay, work is madness at present.
Thanks again, cheers Redbog (Harry)
