    Default Removing silicone

I've just had wooden kitchen bench tops sanded and recoated with a 2 pac poly. At the joints and in some other places theres dry silicone smeared on the tops, What can i use to dissolve or soften the silicone? will metho work without affecting the bench top finish?

Lighter fluid, leave it on and the silicone will swell and and separate from the bench

    Scraper!

Xylene will dissolve some silicons, but it is expensive, has real safety issues, and may also dissolve glues and existing finishes.

Strong acetic acid will dissolve silicone - unfortunately it has to be more concentrated than ordinary vinegar which is only between 4 and 8%.
