Default Resawing Advice/Help for thin jarrah panels

I'm starting a hall tree as a graduation gift for my daughter. It is similar to this one (I bought the plans and have modified a bit). It's basically a blanket box with a very tall back.

Planning to use frame and panel construction, and thought it would be great to cut the 6mm panels from a solid slab and bookmatch. I need them about 300mm wide and lengths of 300mm and 850mm. Sooooo, got a lovely bit of jarrah that is 50mm thick, 310 wide, and 1100 long. Perfect

But, of course, my bandsaw is too small to cut the panels.

Does anyone know of a place I could get this resawn into 6mm panels? Or if there's a better way to get thin jarrah panels I can always use this for another project.

    Thanks,

    Tex

    Hi Tex

Just a suggestion to delay for a bit till the weather settles down.

I am doing this ATM with silky oak, and am having the devil of a time with movement.
It seems that with the dry weather we are having, when I resaw jointed boards, they cup immediately away from the cut, as the "old" surfaces have shruk wrt the interior.

In addition, after glueing up this w/e and week, I have left flat panels on the workbench only to come back 24 hrs later to find them cupped upwards, from the uneven moisture loss between the "closed" bench side and the exposed side.

This is not green timber either, it is ~ 4 year stuff from Mal, which has been in my garage for 2 months so well equilibrated, ---- except for the recent hot dry spring weather.

I know it'll come right, but I did not need the delay right now.

Regarding resawing, I'm using a NK blade on the 10" tablesaw. Gives me about 160mm on a double pass. If that helps you, let me know.

    regards
    Alastair

    Tex,

If Alex is helping you then don't forget to turn up with a bottle of red to show your gratitude. A job like that is going to hurt him bandsaw. Plus Alex is such a good mate.

    Good luck with your project.

The job's done. As Alastair forecast, the wood cupped as it came off the saw, but not too badly - I think it will come back as it evens out. It's cut oversize, so there's plenty of room to thickness it down.
Tex turned up with some nice blackwood & mahogany as a thank you. Nice break from a frustrating design problem I have.

First, thanks heaps Alex, you are a gentleman and a scholar. I'll bring you some red next time, and hopefully I can help you out someday.

After putting the panels through the thicknesser, they settled down a bit and the cupping is much less. Sitting on stickers now in the garage with some weight on them, and we'll see how they go.

BTW, got 4 - 6mm panels from a 50mm thick plank. I calculate that's about 50% of the plank turned into sawdust. Now that is a good morning's work!

ATM the saga of resawn panels continues

With the further excesses in the weather, mine have cupped, bowed the other way, been sponged and laid concave down, been stickered etc etc.

However, everything comes to him that waits As the humidity continued to swing about, when I came to do the final joining of sub panels, wonder of wonders they were flat!!!
Whole panels cupped again on Sunday, but yesterday, had flattened out again, just as I finished machining the frames, so they were swiftly cut to size, and the drawer fronts completed, before they decided to try for a more exotic shape.

Thinking of coupling them to a dial guage to make one of those old fashioned weather stations.

This week I have to do 3 1960 x 400 doors, so the saga will continue.
