respirators, their value!!!!!!
Just a quick post to rave about the value of a full face powered respirator.
For the past few years I have been using a dust collection system in conjunction with a twin filter respirator when power carving and sanding burl bowls. I am aware of the dangers of dust but guessed that this would be a fair method. However I found that, especially after fine sanding, I would blow red mucous from my nose for a day or so.
Over the easter break I went out (after much reading of posts here) and purchased an orange powered respirator (can u guess the brand ) and carved a bowl and sanded it to 1200 grit.
WOW
I cant believe how effective it is, and this is one of the "cheaper" models. With all of the flying particles and dust I didnt even smell the wood. And clear snot!!!!
So for anyone unsure about the value of a powered respirator, stop thinking and start saving. They have to be worth the moneyprove how bored u really are, ..... visit....... http://burlsburlsburls.freespaces.com/ my humble website

Rowan - would absolutely agree. I'm slightly ashmatic and really notice it if I forget to use my resporator when creating a lot of dust.
A great investment in your own health. However the Postie looked at me a bit strange as I came out of the shed to take a parcel off her the other day.Fantastic cheese Grommit!!

'Tis a bugger when you forget you're wearing it while turning and go to blow the shavings out of the tool flute. Even worse if you're touching up a tool edge and go to spit on the hone stone...
