Thanks Dean, great review.
I received 3 of these chisels yesterday, having bought them on Ebay from the MIK franchisee in Coffs Harbour. I have used the 3/4" oval skew today, and any shortcomings were the operators' not the tool. I also bought a 1/2"x1/8" parting tool and a 3mm beading tool, both for some pen ideas I want to try out. Very well priced tools.

Thanks for the review Dean, yours is a very informative site!
Is anyone able to say if there are any other advantages to the round skew other than it glides across the toolrest easier? Does it cut any different or easier?
Thanks,
Nathan.

I dont think it cuts any easier as such, maybe just a little easier to control. Have seen a few skew chisels modified with a slightly rounded cutting edge, as opposed to a flat straight one on most skews. This is something I'm going to try on one of my dodgy old skew chisels. Looks like it may make it slightly easier to use and more versatile. Time will tell

Some turners have it that the "short point" edge of the skew is useful fully rounded, making for smooth progress when rolling beads. The "long point" edge is good with the corners ground off but a decent "flat" left on the edge, making it easier to locate perpendicular by feel for vee cuts & the like.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
