Alright, the goal posts have moved now.

Now looking at the Wagner MMI 1100

Have not had time to read through it yet, but this PDF on the Use of handheld moisture meters on commercially important Australian hardwoods should have some good info.

If I was to buy a moisture meter, in Australia, for Australian timbers, I would talk to the moisture meter company at coffs harbour. The prices of a good meter that is reliable and accurate(there are others than Vagner) may give you a pleasant surprise.

BTW we do probably 200-300 sample checks a day using a conversion table to convert from Doug Fir resistance, no big deal even the teenagers can do it without upstuffs.

I have been in contact with Mark Heath at The Moisture Meter company which I got the contact off Glock40sw (mark speaks highly of you Trevor ). He recommended the MMI 1100 over the MMC 220.
The MMI 1100 has Specific Gravity settings from .20 - 1.0 and has the ability to store up to 50 numbers so you are able to view the high, low and average readings of the stored numbers.
I'm pretty sure you can also store a certain amount of SG settings.

I have though a lot and read a bit about the pros and cons of pinless v pins. Sounds like the pinned meters are consistently more accurate than pinless.
I just don't want to walk into timber yards and smash holes in someone else's timber, or into the face of some nice boards. I think the pinless will suit me better IMHO.

What type/brand meters do you use E.Mac? Delmhorst?

Sorry matrix didn't get back to the thread for a while, & yes Delmhorst make some very good meters and we have several with remote anvils and give reliable consistant readings. Trevor uses wagners from memory, and one other that he & we also use for site work, but the brand name is eluding me atm. If you're checking boards in a yard, I'd be worried if they didn't have their very own to check stock as well, if it's floorboards you can always probe the underneath without any problem though.
