Which Rip Saw Blade For Dense Jarrah / Hardwoods??
I work with mainly air dried jarrah, sugar gum, blackbutt etc most of which is quite gnarly and very dence.
I've been looking through the forum and great reviews regarding rip saw blades and have found many opinions on them. When I narrow it down to one i think will suit, i go to the manufacturers website and they say that the blade is suited to soft or medium dencity timbers, where i need a hardwood blade.
Is anyone using a rip saw blade that they are happy with that cuts well through jarrah etc? And where to get it from?
I have a 12", 5HP, 3 phase machine so power isn't a problem.
Cheers
Dan

We've got a 10" 3HP rip saw at work and we run 48T ATB blades on it with no trouble in everything from pine and mahogany to jarrah and blue gum. As long as it's carbide tipped and doesn't have a lot of teeth anything should work though.
Leitz, Leuco and Dimar are the usual suspects for industrial quality.
Call your local saw sharpening people and they should be able to advise and supply.

Thanks mate , will go and see the boys at Diamond Edge and ask what they recommend. I was hoping to get something together with some other gear from the US but they mainly do 10", 12" is more difficult to find.

Hi Dan
I spin a 300mm/12in CMT thin kerf on my 3HP machine and have run an awful lot of Jarrah and Blackwood through it with ease and leaves a really good finish....not only that that blade holds its sharpness. If you need the actual part number let me know....bought the blade from Carbatec.

G'day John,
Part number would be great or even just a link to it on the carbatec website if it saves getting dust on your chin. I guess with a thin kerf, the riving knife/splitter behind the blade may have to come off?
Cheers

Hi Dan
Blade is CMT 271.300.45M
Yes.... had to grind my second Riving knife down to suit but works a treat.
Had never considered using a thin kerf blade before, but now, having run over 1500 meters of Jarrah and Blackwood through am convinced it is the way to go (for me)..... am sure there will be a storm of dissent.
Cheers

Hi John,
Thanks for that. I understand that there would be many a varying opinion on the subject, but with your experience in the timber that i'm most likely to use, i'd be silly not to take it on board.
I like the idea of not losing so much timber to dust, though may keep a thicker blade for gnarly pieces or just slow the feed rate down and tighten up the feather boards.
Thanks again
Dan
